Piazza della Rovere - Mondavio
The museum is situated in the Fort, one of the most typical and well-preserved defence structures designed by Francesco di Giorgio Martini. The ravelin contains a display of a vast range of arms, including a mascolo, the end section of a large mortar weighing more than six quintals. The display also includes light artillery: muskets, culverins, mortars and bombards. It is also possible to admire halberds, spears and other sidearms, often artistically decorated.
The Historical Re-enactment Museum offers an accurate reconstruction of rooms and moments in life from the 15th and 16th centuries, from the hearty banquet scene to the horrors of prison and torture.
As well as artillery, the armoury also houses an interesting collection of renaissance weapons. Visits to this museum offer a direct experience of parts of the civilisation and culture that marked one of the peaks of the Metauro area.
The ditch around the Fort contains some large-scale war machinery, rebuilt from Martini's designs.
